Writer Platform: Freelance writers with a strong writing platform often have a better chance of landing new clients and clients than writers who don’t take the time to do so. That’s because writers with strong platforms don’t have to keep looking for new business. Instead, new cases appeared before them.
So what is a writer platform?
Many people think of it as just a website or blog where a writer showcases their books, writing services, and other products. But the platform is much more than that.
Thinking of your platform as a stage may make it easier to understand why a website or blog isn’t the full-featured writer’s platform.
A real stage (where the actors perform and show the world their talents and acting skills) consists of many wooden planks. Your platform should also consist of many planks. Here are some boards that can be used to build a writer’s platform:
1. First of all, of course, your website or blog. Here you can post photos, resumes, portfolio samples, and even a list of your writing services.
2. Blog posts. Personal blog posts that showcase not only your writing skills, but also your expertise in certain areas are an important part of your platform.
3. Articles on other websites. If you write short articles for online article directories and those articles are chosen over other websites that appeal to your target market, these articles will help you build your platform and drive traffic to your website or blog. Guest blogging for other bloggers in your target market can do the same.
4. Speech activities. When you speak at events that target your target market, you become an expert in your field.
5. Publication Titles. These publishing credits will go a long way in building your writing platform as you write for magazines that are popular with your target market.
6. Media messages. If you’re doing something newsworthy, promote it with a press release. Posting regularly is an important part of your platform.
7. Newsletters or other products for your target market. Likewise, your newsletter helps you become an expert in your field, so it is another important part of your platform.
8. A book that shows your expertise. Write your “signature” book, it is probably the most important part of your platform.
9. Post comments in forums, blogs and other websites (that target your target market) and post on various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. But keep in mind that you need to express some important content in comments, updates and tweets if you want them to be useful boards on your platform.
10. Your own information products – including e-courses, distance learning courses, webinars and other seminars. These can also build platforms and generate revenue at the same time.
Building a writing platform is not difficult. However, if you want to build a powerful platform or podium to showcase your talents and writing skills, you need to add many different shelves.
